12.8 cm PaK 44

Represent one of the most formidable German anti-tank weapons of the Second World War with this detailed 12.8 cm PaK 44 model. Developed during the later stages of the conflict, this exceptionally powerful gun reflected the Wehrmacht’s requirement for a weapon capable of engaging the heaviest Allied and Soviet armoured vehicles at long range.

Historical Role

The 12.8 cm Panzerabwehrkanone 44 was a late-war heavy anti-tank gun designed around a high-velocity 12.8 cm weapon. Its excellent armour-piercing performance made it suitable for confronting heavy tanks, while suitable ammunition also allowed the gun to engage other battlefield targets. However, its considerable size and weight made movement, concealment and rapid deployment challenging, so it was best suited to prepared defensive positions and long-range fields of fire.

Distinctive Appearance

The PaK 44 is immediately recognisable by its exceptionally long barrel, prominent muzzle brake and substantial recoil mechanism. Its massive carriage, large road wheels and wide supporting structure give the weapon a powerful, grounded stance. These features make the model an imposing centrepiece, particularly when displayed with a gun crew, ammunition, towing equipment or a fortified late-war position.

Modelling Uses

This model is ideal for late-war German dioramas, model railways, historically themed wargaming displays and specialist collectors. It can be placed in a concealed woodland emplacement, a defensive gun line, a rail-side unloading scene or a maintenance setting. Smaller scales suit expansive battlefield layouts, while larger versions provide ample scope for detailed painting, weathering, groundwork and crew accessories.

Fun Fact

A closely related version of the 12.8 cm gun was installed in the Jagdtiger heavy tank destroyer, giving that vehicle one of the most powerful anti-tank armaments fitted to any operational armoured fighting vehicle of the war.
