15 cm sIG 33

Bring substantial Wehrmacht infantry firepower to your World War II collection with this detailed model of the 15 cm schweres Infanteriegeschütz 33. Designed to represent one of Germany’s principal heavy infantry guns, it makes an imposing centrepiece for gun positions, artillery crews and battlefield support scenes.

Historical Role

The 15 cm sIG 33 was developed to provide German infantry formations with powerful close-support fire. Assigned to heavy infantry gun companies, it could engage fortified positions, buildings, machine-gun nests and other obstacles with a heavy high-explosive shell. Although capable of indirect fire, it was frequently employed relatively close to the front, where its weight and limited mobility could make deployment challenging. The weapon served throughout World War II on multiple fronts and remained an important source of short-range heavy fire support for Wehrmacht infantry units.

Distinctive Appearance

The sIG 33 is instantly recognisable by its short, thick 15 cm barrel, prominent recoil assembly and large angular protective shield. Its sturdy carriage, substantial trail and spoked wheels give the gun a compact yet exceptionally heavy appearance. These features create a distinctive silhouette that contrasts strongly with the longer, slimmer profiles of conventional field artillery pieces.

Modelling Uses

This model is ideal for World War II dioramas depicting prepared firing positions, infantry support actions, ruined urban areas or artillery columns. It can also add an authentic military load or trackside scene to model railways. Wargamers can use it in German heavy infantry gun batteries and objective displays, while collectors will appreciate its characteristic profile and important battlefield role.

Fun Fact

The sIG 33’s firepower was considered valuable enough that the gun was later mounted on several tracked chassis, producing self-propelled infantry gun vehicles intended to improve battlefield mobility.
