Historical Role
The M-10 was a heavy corps-level howitzer intended to engage fortified positions, field defences, troop concentrations and other important battlefield targets. Entering Soviet service shortly before World War II, it saw action during the early years of fighting on the Eastern Front. Its powerful 152 mm ammunition made it effective against entrenched positions, although the weapon’s weight and towing requirements made careful deployment important.
Distinctive Appearance
The M-10 is instantly recognisable by its thick, relatively short barrel, substantial recoil mechanism and broad protective gun shield. Its split-trail carriage gave the weapon a wide, purposeful stance when deployed, while the large wheels and robust construction reflected the demands of moving heavy artillery over difficult terrain.
