17 cm K 18

Bring formidable German heavy artillery to your collection with this detailed 3D-printed model of the 17 cm Kanone 18 in Mörserlafette. Used by the Wehrmacht during the Second World War, this imposing long-range gun combined substantial firepower with excellent range and accuracy. Its scale and distinctive carriage make it an impressive centrepiece for artillery positions, transport scenes and battlefield displays.

Historical Role

The 17 cm K 18 served with German heavy artillery formations, where it was employed for long-range bombardment and counter-battery fire. It could engage enemy artillery, fortified positions and important targets well behind the front line. Although highly effective, the weapon’s considerable weight made movement and deployment a demanding task. For road transport, the barrel could be removed and carried separately from the carriage.

Distinctive Appearance

The K 18 is immediately recognisable by its exceptionally long, slender barrel, substantial recoil assembly and massive Mörserlafette carriage. Large road wheels, a broad firing platform and the heavily engineered mounting emphasise the weapon’s size. When deployed, the carriage could provide wide traverse, creating the characteristic appearance of a carefully prepared Wehrmacht heavy-artillery position.

Modelling Uses

This model is ideal for World War II dioramas depicting gun lines, counter-battery positions, towing preparations or artillery crews servicing a heavy weapon. It also makes a striking addition to model railways with military sidings or transport loads, wargaming displays requiring a German heavy-artillery objective, and collections focused on specialised Wehrmacht equipment. The range of scales allows it to complement both compact layouts and highly detailed display scenes.

Fun Fact

The 17 cm K 18 shared its Mörserlafette carriage concept with the 21 cm Mörser 18. Its sophisticated dual-recoil arrangement helped absorb the powerful firing forces and reduced movement of the weapon in its prepared position.
