3.7cm Flak 43 Zwilling

Recreate a formidable late-war German anti-aircraft weapon with this detailed 3.7cm Flak 43 Zwilling model. Combining twin 3.7 cm guns on a compact mounting, the Flakzwilling 43 delivered a concentrated volume of fire against fast, low-flying aircraft during the final years of World War II.

Historical Role

Introduced during the late-war period, the Flakzwilling 43 was designed to strengthen German short-range air defence against fighter-bombers and other low-altitude threats. Its heavy projectiles provided greater range and striking power than lighter 2 cm weapons. Although primarily intended for anti-aircraft service, the mounting could also be employed against exposed ground targets and lightly protected vehicles when battlefield conditions required.

Distinctive Appearance

The weapon is immediately recognisable by its paired 3.7 cm barrels, arranged one above the other rather than conventionally side by side. Its angular protective shield, substantial gun cradle, ammunition-loading equipment and low, wide firing platform create a purposeful late-war silhouette. These features make the model an eye-catching centrepiece for a flak position, defensive emplacement or maintenance scene.

Variant Differences

The Flakzwilling 43 developed from the single-barrel 3.7 cm Flak 43. It retained the basic weapon system but combined two guns on a modified mounting to increase the density of fire directed at a target. The stacked barrels, enlarged cradle and more substantial shield arrangement are the clearest modelling differences. This twin configuration was created to improve the chances of striking fast-moving aircraft during short engagement windows.

Modelling Uses

Ideal for World War II dioramas, model railways, wargaming displays and collectors, this model suits airfield defence scenes, railway protection details, urban strongpoints and late-war German gun positions. It can be displayed deployed for action, incorporated into a fortified site or paired with suitable crews, ammunition and towing vehicles.

Fun Fact

The vertically stacked barrel arrangement gave the Flakzwilling 43 a particularly unusual profile, distinguishing it from many twin anti-aircraft guns that placed their barrels side by side.
