3.7cm PaK 35 – RARE FIND

Recreate an early German anti-tank gun with this detailed 3.7cm PaK 35 model. Part of the lineage that led to the familiar PaK 35/36 family, this compact Wehrmacht weapon represents an important stage in the development of German anti-tank artillery before and during the opening years of World War II.

Historical Role

The 3.7cm PaK 35 was intended to give infantry formations a mobile, low-profile defence against contemporary armoured vehicles. Its light construction allowed the gun to be positioned, concealed and redeployed more easily than heavier anti-tank pieces. Weapons of this class were effective against many lightly armoured and early-war tanks, although increasing armour protection eventually reduced the usefulness of the 3.7cm calibre in the primary anti-tank role.

Distinctive Appearance

The model captures the gun’s compact shield, slender barrel, low carriage and split trails. Its restrained proportions and early-pattern carriage details create a distinctly pre-war and early-war appearance, making it visually different from the larger anti-tank guns that later became prominent in Wehrmacht service.

Variant Differences

The PaK 35 belongs to the developmental line better known through the standardized 3.7cm PaK 36. The principal evolution concerned carriage, wheel and towing arrangements suited to changing mobility requirements rather than a major change in calibre. These early-pattern details are the most visible modelling distinction and explain why the PaK 35 is valuable as a separately represented variant.

Modelling Uses

An excellent choice for early-war dioramas, gun positions, marching columns and infantry support scenes. It is equally suited to model railways, historically themed wargaming displays and collectors building a chronological selection of German artillery. The RARE FIND badge reflects that this early 3.7cm PaK variant is seldom offered separately from the better-known family designation.

Fun Fact

As heavier enemy tanks appeared, German crews famously nicknamed the 3.7cm PaK family the “Panzeranklopfgerät,” or “tank door knocker,” because its projectiles could reveal a gun’s position without reliably defeating thick armour.
