76 mm USV Divisional Gun

Bring a key piece of Soviet World War II field artillery to your collection with this detailed 76 mm USV Divisional Gun model. Officially adopted as the 76 mm divisional gun Model 1939, or USV, this artillery piece served with Red Army rifle divisions during the opening years of the conflict. Its recognisable profile and versatile battlefield role make it an excellent subject for historically themed displays.

Historical Role

The USV was designed to provide Soviet divisional artillery units with mobile, direct and indirect fire support. Its 76.2 mm gun could engage infantry positions, field fortifications, artillery and, when suitable ammunition and firing conditions allowed, armoured vehicles. The weapon saw extensive service during the early-war fighting on the Eastern Front. Although progressively superseded by the lighter and more production-efficient ZiS-3, surviving USV guns remained useful throughout the war.

Distinctive Appearance

The gun is distinguished by its long barrel, prominent recoil mechanism, broad protective shield and split-trail carriage. Large spoked wheels and the angular trail legs give it the practical, rugged appearance associated with Soviet field artillery. These features create a convincing silhouette whether the model is displayed in a firing position, being prepared by its crew or placed behind a towing vehicle.

Modelling Uses

This model is ideal for Eastern Front dioramas, model railways, wargaming displays and collectors of Soviet military equipment. It can form the centrepiece of an artillery position, roadside column, defensive line or abandoned battlefield scene. Smaller scales suit larger formations and railway layouts, while the larger versions offer greater presence for painting, weathering and detailed display work.

Fun Fact

Production of the USV was resumed after the German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941 because the Red Army urgently needed proven divisional guns that could be manufactured while newer designs were being introduced.
