8.8cm PaK 43 Panzerjägerkanone
Recreate one of the Wehrmacht’s most formidable late-war anti-tank weapons with this detailed model of the German 8.8cm PaK 43 Panzerjägerkanone. Its long barrel, low profile and substantial carriage make it an imposing centrepiece for World War II collections, defensive positions and battlefield scenes.
Historical Role
Introduced during the later years of World War II, the PaK 43 was designed to engage heavily armoured enemy vehicles at long range. Its high-velocity 8.8cm gun gave German Panzerjäger and anti-tank units a powerful defensive weapon capable of threatening the most heavily protected Allied and Soviet tanks. Although highly effective, its weight made deployment and movement challenging, so carefully prepared firing positions and suitable towing vehicles were important in service.
Distinctive Appearance
The PaK 43 is immediately recognisable by its exceptionally long, slender barrel and prominent muzzle brake. The gun was mounted on a low cruciform carriage that allowed wide traverse while presenting a reduced silhouette when deployed. Its angular protective shield, folding carriage elements, wheels and exposed operating mechanisms create a mechanically detailed profile well suited to close inspection and realistic painting.
Modelling Uses
This model is ideal for late-war Wehrmacht dioramas, fortified anti-tank positions, gun crews and towing scenes. Smaller scales work particularly well beside model railways, transport columns and compact wargaming displays, while larger versions provide extra presence for detailed painting, weathering and collectors’ cabinets. Add earthworks, ammunition containers, camouflage netting or roadside cover to portray a concealed defensive emplacement.
Fun Fact
The PaK 43 belonged to the same powerful 8.8cm gun family associated with the Tiger II’s KwK 43 and armament fitted to several German Panzerjäger designs. Its unusually long barrel was a defining feature of the weapon’s high-velocity performance.
