8.8cm Raketenwerfer 43 (Puppchen) + Fallschirmjäger
Recreate a distinctive late-war German anti-tank position with this detailed 8.8cm Raketenwerfer 43, popularly known as the “Puppchen,” accompanied by Fallschirmjäger. Combining an unusual wheeled rocket launcher with German airborne troops, this set has earned our RARE FIND badge for its uncommon Raketenwerfer 43 and Fallschirmjäger pairing.
Historical Role
Introduced during the Second World War, the Raketenwerfer 43 was a lightweight infantry anti-tank weapon designed to fire an 8.8cm rocket-propelled projectile. Unlike the shoulder-fired Panzerschreck, the Puppchen was mounted on a compact carriage and operated in a manner resembling a small artillery piece. Its low profile allowed Wehrmacht crews to position it behind field cover, along roads or within prepared defensive positions. Fallschirmjäger increasingly fought as elite ground troops during the later stages of the war, making this combination well suited to a late-war defensive scene.
Distinctive Appearance
The Puppchen is immediately recognisable by its long tubular launcher, enclosed breech area, protective frontal shield and small two-wheeled carriage. Its split trails and low firing position create the silhouette of a miniature anti-tank gun, despite its rocket armament. The accompanying Fallschirmjäger figures add scale, human detail and a clear German airborne context to the display.
Modelling Uses
This set is ideal for World War II dioramas depicting concealed anti-tank positions, ruined villages, woodland defences or roadside ambushes. Smaller scales are particularly suitable for model railways and larger battlefield layouts, while every size can enhance wargaming displays. The unusual weapon-and-crew combination also makes an engaging piece for specialist collectors of German artillery, airborne forces and late-war equipment.
Fun Fact
“Puppchen” translates approximately as “little doll.” The nickname reflected the weapon’s compact appearance: although it looked like a small conventional gun, it actually launched a rocket-propelled anti-tank projectile.
