88mm PaK 43/41 AT-2 – RARE FIND
Bring one of Germany’s most formidable late-war anti-tank guns to your collection with this detailed 88mm PaK 43/41 AT-2 model. This RARE FIND release represents an alternate PaK 43/41 anti-tank drawing variant, offering collectors and modellers a distinctive interpretation of this imposing Wehrmacht weapon.
Historical Role
Introduced during World War II, the 8.8 cm PaK 43/41 was designed to engage heavily armoured enemy vehicles at long range. Its powerful high-velocity gun made it an important defensive weapon during the later stages of the conflict. Typically deployed in prepared firing positions, it was operated by a gun crew and moved by a suitable artillery tractor, although its considerable size and weight could make rapid repositioning difficult.
Distinctive Appearance
The PaK 43/41 is instantly recognisable by its exceptionally long barrel, prominent muzzle brake and large, angular protective shield. Its conventional split-trail carriage, substantial wheels and high profile give it a rugged, improvised appearance compared with the lower cruciform-mounted PaK 43. The AT-2 presentation is based on an alternate drawing variant, which is the specific reason for its RARE FIND badge.
Variant Differences
The PaK 43/41 was developed as an alternative mounting for the 8.8 cm PaK 43 gun. Instead of the base weapon’s low cruciform platform and wide traverse, it used a more conventional split-trail artillery carriage with restricted traverse. Visually, the larger shield, elevated firing position, paired wheels and long trails are the principal differences. This arrangement enabled the powerful gun to enter service without relying solely on the more specialised PaK 43 carriage.
Modelling Uses
An excellent centrepiece for late-war dioramas, artillery positions, model railways, wargaming displays and specialist collectors. Add crew figures, ammunition cases, camouflage netting or a towing vehicle to create a convincing Wehrmacht defensive scene.
Fun Fact
German crews nicknamed the PaK 43/41 “Scheunentor,” meaning “barn door,” a reference to its notably large gun shield and imposing silhouette.
