A-19 M1937 122mm
Bring the power of Soviet heavy artillery to your collection with this detailed model of the A-19 M1937 122mm gun, more formally known as the 122mm corps gun M1931/37. A formidable Red Army artillery piece of the Second World War, the A-19 combined long-range firepower with a robust carriage suited to demanding battlefield conditions.
Historical Role
The A-19 served primarily as a Soviet corps-level field gun, engaging enemy artillery, defensive positions, transport routes and other important targets at extended ranges. Its powerful 122mm ammunition also made it effective in direct-fire engagements against fortifications and heavily armoured vehicles when battlefield conditions required it. The gun saw extensive service on the Eastern Front and supported major Red Army offensives throughout the war.
Distinctive Appearance
The model captures the A-19’s long, slender barrel, prominent recoil mechanism and broad protective shield. Its split-trail carriage, large wheels and substantial breech assembly give it a purposeful, heavy profile. These features make the gun immediately recognisable among Soviet wartime artillery and create an imposing centrepiece for a gun position or towing scene.
Variant Differences
The M1931/37 developed from the earlier M1931 A-19 by combining the established 122mm gun barrel with the improved split-trail carriage associated with the ML-20 gun-howitzer. This provided a more practical mounting with improved traverse and mobility. For modellers, the carriage, trails, wheels and shield arrangement are the principal visible distinctions from the earlier pattern.
Modelling Uses
Ideal for Eastern Front dioramas, artillery batteries, model railways, wargaming displays and collectors of Soviet military equipment. It can be displayed in a firing position, on the move with a suitable tractor, or as part of a fortified defensive emplacement.
Fun Fact
The A-19’s ballistic performance helped influence the development of the D-25 family of tank guns, best known for arming the Soviet IS-2 heavy tank.
