AMD Panhard 175 1-56
Bring an uncommon French armoured car to your collection with this detailed Blueprint to Print 3D model of the AMD Panhard 175. Dating from the World War II era, this distinctive vehicle offers an appealing alternative to more familiar wartime subjects. It receives our RARE VARIANT badge because this French armoured-car type is modelled far less frequently than mainstream wartime vehicles.
Historical Role
The Panhard 175 belonged to a family of French wheeled armoured cars developed for reconnaissance, patrol and colonial service. Its mobility made it suitable for scouting routes, maintaining contact between formations and providing protection for road movements across the extensive territories of the French overseas empire. Although associated with the pre-war period, vehicles of this type remained relevant during the early years of World War II, particularly in French-controlled territories where dependable long-range patrol vehicles were essential.
Distinctive Appearance
The AMD Panhard 175 is immediately recognisable by its elongated armoured body, prominent bonnet, compact turret and six-wheel arrangement with closely spaced rear axles. Angular armour plates give the vehicle a purposeful interwar appearance, while the turret’s short 37 mm gun and machine-gun armament reflect its combination of reconnaissance and light fire-support duties. These features create a markedly different silhouette from later four-wheeled French armoured cars.
Modelling Uses
This model is well suited to French colonial patrol scenes, early-war road columns, desert or North African dioramas and comparative armoured-vehicle collections. Smaller scales are ideal for model railways and compact wargaming displays, while larger versions provide greater presence for painting, weathering and detailed display. It is an especially interesting choice for collectors seeking overlooked French military vehicles.
Fun Fact
The French designation “AMD” stands for Automitrailleuse de Découverte, indicating an armoured car intended for reconnaissance and discovery rather than service as a wheeled tank.
