B2 152mm Heavy Howitzer
Recreate the imposing presence of Soviet heavy artillery with this detailed model of the B2 152mm Heavy Howitzer. Representing the powerful 152mm Br-2 gun associated with Red Army heavy artillery formations, this model captures a weapon designed to deliver long-range fire against fortified positions, artillery batteries and other high-value battlefield targets during the Second World War.
Historical Role
The Br-2 served as a Soviet heavy gun rather than a conventional field howitzer. Its long barrel and powerful ammunition made it suitable for counter-battery fire, attacking defensive works and engaging targets beyond the reach of lighter divisional artillery. Although less numerous than standard Red Army field guns, weapons of this class provided valuable heavy-fire support on the Eastern Front, particularly during prepared offensives and operations against entrenched positions.
Distinctive Appearance
The weapon is immediately recognisable by its exceptionally long barrel and unusual tracked carriage. Instead of conventional road wheels, the carriage used compact caterpillar tracks, giving the gun a broad, low base and a particularly formidable silhouette. The substantial recoil mechanism, elevated mounting and heavy supporting structure further distinguish it from smaller Soviet artillery pieces. For transport, the weapon could be broken down into separate loads and moved using specialised artillery tractors.
Modelling Uses
This model is ideal for Eastern Front dioramas, Red Army artillery positions, maintenance scenes and towing displays. Smaller scales work especially well on model railways or in wargaming displays, while the larger versions offer greater visual impact for detailed scenic builds and collectors of Soviet military equipment. It can be displayed deployed for firing, positioned behind prepared earthworks or arranged as part of a heavy artillery column.
Fun Fact
The Br-2 belonged to a family of Soviet heavy weapons using related tracked-carriage concepts, alongside the famous 203mm B-4 howitzer and the massive 280mm Br-5 mortar.
