Churchill Mk VII
Bring a formidable British infantry tank to your collection with this detailed Churchill Mk VII model. Introduced during the later years of the Second World War, the Mk VII combined heavy armour, effective firepower and the Churchill family’s renowned ability to cross difficult terrain.
Historical Role
The Churchill Mk VII entered service in time for the Normandy campaign of 1944. Armed with a 75 mm gun, it was designed to support advancing infantry, engage fortified positions and withstand substantial enemy fire. Its strong protection and excellent climbing ability made it particularly valuable in difficult countryside and during assaults against prepared defences.
Distinctive Appearance
The vehicle is instantly recognisable by its long, slab-sided hull, high track runs and tracks extending around much of the hull profile. Large side access doors, prominent suspension details and a compact, heavily armoured turret give the Mk VII the purposeful appearance associated with late-war British armour.
Variant Differences
Developed from earlier Churchill infantry tanks, the Mk VII featured a substantially redesigned and more heavily armoured hull, a new turret and a 75 mm main gun. Its thicker, squarer construction is the most visible modelling difference. The redesign provided greater battlefield protection while retaining the Churchill’s established infantry-support role and cross-country performance.
Modelling Uses
This model is ideal for Normandy and North-West Europe dioramas, British Army wargaming displays and military vehicle collections. Smaller scales suit model railways and larger battlefield scenes, while the larger versions provide collectors and painters with a striking centrepiece for detailed finishing, weathering and unit markings.
Fun Fact
The Mk VII chassis also formed the basis of the famous Churchill Crocodile, a specialised flamethrower tank that towed its armoured fuel trailer behind it.
