Cruiser Mk II (A10)
Bring an important early-war British armoured vehicle to your collection with this detailed 3D-printed model of the Cruiser Mk II (A10). Its angular, riveted construction and unmistakable pre-war design make it an excellent choice for recreating British armoured formations of the opening years of the Second World War.
Historical Role
The Cruiser Mk II served as a more heavily protected cruiser tank, combining the mobility expected of British cruiser doctrine with improved armour protection. Armed primarily with the Ordnance QF 2-pounder gun, it was intended to engage enemy armour and support mobile battlefield operations. A10s saw action with British forces during the campaign in France and in Greece, as well as across the demanding deserts of North Africa.
Distinctive Appearance
The A10 is distinguished by its upright, slab-sided hull, riveted armour plates and compact central turret. Its exposed suspension, narrow tracks and stepped front hull capture the transitional character of interwar British tank engineering. The omission of the Cruiser Mk I’s two small auxiliary machine-gun turrets gives the A10 a cleaner, more solid-looking hull profile.
Variant Differences
Developed from the Cruiser Mk I (A9), the A10 retained the earlier vehicle’s general layout and 2-pounder main armament but introduced substantially heavier armour. The twin auxiliary machine-gun turrets were removed, simplifying the forward hull, while the additional protection increased weight and reduced speed. It was created to provide a better-protected cruiser for more demanding combat conditions.
Modelling Uses
Ideal for early Second World War dioramas, model railways, historically themed wargaming displays and collectors of British armour, this model suits scenes set in France, Greece or North Africa. The range of scales supports everything from compact gaming formations and railway layouts to larger display pieces with detailed painting and weathering.
Fun Fact
Although developed as a heavier counterpart to the A9, the A10 remained part of Britain’s cruiser tank family, illustrating the experimentation that shaped British armoured doctrine before and during the early war years.
