Danish Infantry WWII

Represent the soldiers of the Royal Danish Army during the opening phase of the Second World War with this detailed Danish Infantry WWII miniature. Designed for historically themed scenes and collections, the figure captures the character of Denmark’s compact but determined armed forces during the German invasion of 9 April 1940.

Historical Role

Danish infantry units were responsible for defending border crossings, roads, bridges and key urban positions. During Operation Weserübung, troops in southern Jutland established hurried defensive positions and engaged advancing German forces with rifles, machine guns and light anti-tank weapons. Other soldiers guarded strategically important locations, including the royal residence in Copenhagen. Organised resistance ended after several hours when the Danish government ordered a ceasefire to limit further casualties and damage.

Distinctive Appearance

Danish soldiers of the 1940 campaign were visually distinguished by their M/1923 steel helmets, which had a recognisable rounded crown and broad, sloping rim. Their practical field uniforms were accompanied by leather equipment, ammunition pouches, packs and period infantry weapons. This combination creates a noticeably different silhouette from contemporary German, British or French troops, making the miniature especially useful in an accurately composed early-war scene.

Modelling Uses

This figure is ideal for dioramas depicting the fighting in southern Jutland, defensive roadblocks, border posts or the occupation of Denmark. It can also add authentic Scandinavian detail to model railways, provide a distinctive unit for historically inspired wargaming displays, or form part of a wider World War II collection. Collectors of less frequently represented European forces will find it particularly valuable.

Fun Fact

Danish infantry made extensive use of the locally developed Madsen light machine gun. First introduced before the First World War, the Madsen became one of the earliest successful portable light machine guns and was adopted by numerous countries around the world.
