Dicker Max – PROTOTYPE
Recreate one of the Wehrmacht’s most imposing experimental armoured vehicles with this detailed Blueprint to Print 3D model. The Dicker Max receives our PROTOTYPE badge because it was an experimental self-propelled anti-tank gun built in very small numbers around a powerful 10.5 cm cannon.
Historical Role
Developed during the early years of the Second World War, the Dicker Max was conceived as a heavily armed Selbstfahrlafette capable of engaging fortified positions and enemy armour at long range. Its large-calibre gun offered considerably greater striking power than contemporary German tank armament, but the vehicle remained an experimental design rather than entering large-scale production.
Distinctive Appearance
The Dicker Max is instantly recognisable by its long 10.5 cm gun, prominent mantlet and tall, open-topped fighting compartment. Its angular superstructure rises above a Panzer IV-derived chassis, while the absence of a rotating turret gives it the purposeful silhouette of an early-war German self-propelled gun. The exposed compartment and substantial cannon make it an especially striking display model.
Variant Differences
Developed from the Panzer IV chassis, the Dicker Max replaced the base tank’s enclosed rotating turret and shorter 7.5 cm armament with a fixed, open-topped superstructure carrying a much larger 10.5 cm cannon. The modified hull and elevated fighting compartment created a visibly taller, more specialised vehicle intended to deliver heavy direct fire against fortifications and armoured targets.
Modelling Uses
An excellent centrepiece for German World War II dioramas, the Dicker Max suits Eastern Front scenes, workshop settings, proving grounds and vehicle comparison displays. It is also ideal for model railways, wargaming displays and collectors seeking an unusual Wehrmacht vehicle beyond the more familiar production tanks and assault guns.
Fun Fact
“Dicker Max” translates approximately as “Fat Max” or “Stout Max.” The memorable nickname is far shorter than the vehicle’s formal German designation and reflects its bulky profile and oversized armament.
