F-22 76,2mm
Bring an important piece of Soviet pre-war artillery to your collection with this detailed 3D-printed model of the 76.2 mm divisional gun M1936, better known by its design bureau designation, F-22. Developed before the Second World War, the F-22 served with Red Army formations during the opening stages of the conflict and became a familiar sight on the Eastern Front.
Historical Role
The F-22 was designed as a divisional field gun capable of engaging infantry positions, fortifications and armoured vehicles. Its 76.2 mm ammunition gave Red Army gun crews a useful combination of high-explosive and armour-piercing capability. Although later Soviet divisional guns were lighter and easier to operate, the F-22 remained in frontline service during the difficult campaigns of 1941 and beyond, frequently supporting infantry and defending threatened sectors against advancing armour.
Distinctive Appearance
The gun is recognisable by its long barrel, prominent recoil mechanism, large spoked wheels and wide split-trail carriage. Its comparatively tall silhouette and substantial shield reflect the ambitious original design concept. Fine details around the breech, sighting area, towing equipment and carriage structure make it an engaging subject for painting, weathering and realistic emplacement scenes.
Modelling Uses
This model is well suited to Eastern Front dioramas, artillery batteries, defensive positions and battlefield towing scenes. Smaller scales are ideal for model railways and compact wargaming displays, while larger versions provide greater visual presence for detailed painting projects and collectors of Soviet World War II equipment. Add crew figures, ammunition crates, spent cases, camouflage netting or a suitable towing vehicle to create a convincing operational setting.
Fun Fact
The F-22 was originally developed with an unusually broad range of intended capabilities, contributing to its high elevation and robust construction. That substantial design later allowed captured examples to be adapted into effective anti-tank weapons, extending the gun’s wartime story beyond its original Red Army service.
