German Panther Ausf. G Medium Tank – Late Production, 1944

This detailed 3D-printed model represents a late-production German Panther Ausf. G, one of the Wehrmacht’s principal medium tanks during the final stages of the Second World War. Introduced in 1944, the Ausf. G combined formidable anti-armour capability with sloped protection and a recognisable low, purposeful profile. Its late-production configuration is the reason this model carries the LATE WAR badge.

Historical Role

The Panther Ausf. G served with German Panzer formations on both the Eastern and Western Fronts. Its long-barrelled 7.5 cm KwK 42 gun was intended to engage enemy armour at extended ranges, while its mobility allowed it to support counterattacks, defensive operations and armoured breakthroughs. Although officially classed as a medium tank, the Panther was larger and heavier than many contemporary vehicles in that category.

Distinctive Appearance

The model captures the Panther’s sharply sloped glacis, broad tracks, overlapping road wheels and long gun barrel. The angular turret, prominent mantlet and wide hull create its unmistakable silhouette. Late-production Ausf. G features could include a revised mantlet profile and modified exhaust arrangements, giving the vehicle a subtly different appearance from earlier Panthers.

Variant Differences

The Ausf. G followed the Panther Ausf. A while retaining the established 7.5 cm armament and general automotive layout. Its redesigned hull simplified construction, revised the side armour arrangement and replaced the driver’s earlier direct-vision opening with periscopic observation. These changes supported more practical late-war production while preserving the Panther’s battlefield role and characteristic appearance.

Modelling Uses

Suitable for late-war dioramas, model railways, wargaming displays and collectors, this Panther can form the centrepiece of a Panzer column, defensive position, maintenance scene or ruined urban setting. The range of scales supports compact layouts, gaming collections and larger display models.

Fun Fact

The Panther’s variant sequence was unusual: the Ausf. D was followed by the Ausf. A and then the Ausf. G, rather than progressing alphabetically.
