GMC CCKW-352
Recreate one of America’s essential World War II transport vehicles with this detailed 3D-printed GMC CCKW-352. Compact, rugged and instantly recognisable, the short-wheelbase CCKW-352 brings an important Allied logistics vehicle to military collections, layouts and historically themed displays.
Historical Role
The GMC CCKW series formed a vital part of the United States Army’s wartime transport fleet. The 2½-ton, 6x6 CCKW-352 was particularly suited to towing artillery and carrying gun crews, ammunition, equipment and supplies. Its all-wheel-drive arrangement allowed it to operate over difficult ground, supporting mobile operations in multiple theatres and helping maintain the flow of matériel from supply depots to forward units.
Distinctive Appearance
The CCKW-352 is distinguished by its short, purposeful proportions, conventional bonneted cab and three-axle chassis. Its prominent radiator grille, separate front mudguards, running boards, rugged wheels and compact cargo body create the unmistakable profile of an American wartime truck. The shortened space between the cab and rear axles gives this version a noticeably more condensed appearance than longer members of the CCKW family.
Variant Differences
The CCKW-352 was the short-wheelbase counterpart to the better-known CCKW-353. Both shared the same basic 6x6 layout and mechanical family, but the 352 used a shorter chassis and cargo body. This is the principal visible modelling difference and made the vehicle more manoeuvrable, particularly when employed as an artillery prime mover. It was a transport and towing vehicle rather than a purpose-built armed variant.
Modelling Uses
This model is ideal for World War II convoy scenes, artillery positions, supply depots and airfield or harbour settings. It is equally suited to dioramas, model railways, wargaming displays and collectors seeking an authentic US Army logistics vehicle. The range of scales supports everything from compact railway layouts to highly detailed military displays.
Fun Fact
The letters in CCKW were part of GMC’s internal designation system: they identified a 1941 design with a conventional cab, driven front axle and tandem rear axles. The wider CCKW family became famously associated with the nickname “Deuce and a Half.”
