Italian Tank Crew 1-43
Bring an authentic human element to your Second World War Italian armour collection with the Italian Tank Crew 1-43 figure. Designed to complement Italian tanks, self-propelled guns and other armoured vehicles, this detailed miniature is ideal for creating a convincing operational, maintenance or rest scene.
Historical Role
Italian tank crews, known as carristi, served with the armoured formations of the Royal Italian Army during the Second World War. They operated vehicles such as the M13/40 and M14/41 medium tanks, lighter reconnaissance tanks and Semovente self-propelled guns. Crews were responsible not only for fighting their vehicles but also for navigation, communications, ammunition handling and essential field maintenance. Their service was especially prominent in North Africa, where difficult terrain, heat, dust and long supply routes placed severe demands on both men and machines.
Distinctive Appearance
Italian armoured troops had a recognisable appearance shaped by specialist crew clothing, compact personal equipment and headgear suited to working inside confined fighting compartments. This figure provides an appropriately scaled crew presence beside an open hatch or parked vehicle, helping to convey the relatively tight proportions of wartime Italian armour. Careful painting can highlight uniform cloth, leather equipment, insignia and the dust or wear associated with campaigning conditions.
Modelling Uses
This figure is well suited to North African and Mediterranean dioramas, workshop and resupply scenes, vehicle displays and military model railways. It can also serve as a crew marker or visual objective in tabletop wargaming displays. Collectors may use it alongside Italian armour to add scale, atmosphere and historical context to a standalone vehicle presentation.
Fun Fact
The traditional motto associated with Italian tank troops is “Ferrea Mole, Ferreo Cuore”, commonly translated as “Iron hull, iron heart.” It reflects the determination expected of crews serving inside armoured vehicles under demanding battlefield conditions.
