Jagdpanther 1-56 Variant

Bring one of Germany’s most recognisable late-war armoured fighting vehicles to your collection with the Jagdpanther 1-56 Variant. Combining the Panther chassis with a powerful anti-tank gun and a heavily sloped fixed superstructure, this detailed model captures the formidable profile of the Wehrmacht’s purpose-built heavy tank destroyer.

Historical Role

Introduced into service in 1944, the Jagdpanther was designed to engage Allied armour at long range. Its 8.8 cm Pak 43-series gun offered exceptional anti-tank performance, while the Panther-derived chassis provided better mobility than many heavier German vehicles. Jagdpanthers served on both the Eastern and Western Fronts, where they were most effective when positioned defensively, concealed carefully and supported by other arms.

Distinctive Appearance

The vehicle is defined by its sharply sloped casemate, long gun barrel and compact, turretless silhouette. A prominent gun mantlet dominates the front plate, while the broad Panther hull, overlapping road wheels and wide tracks give the model an unmistakably German late-war appearance. Roof fittings, rear engine-deck features and angular armour surfaces add visual interest from every direction.

Variant Differences

Developed from the Panther tank chassis, the Jagdpanther replaced the rotating turret with a fixed armoured fighting compartment mounting the much larger 8.8 cm anti-tank gun. This created a lower silhouette and a more spacious casemate for the gun crew. For modellers, the extended sloping superstructure, fixed mantlet and long barrel are the clearest differences from the standard Panther. The design existed to combine Panther mobility with heavy long-range anti-armour firepower.

Modelling Uses

This model is ideal for late-war dioramas, model railways, wargaming displays and collectors of German military vehicles. It can form the centrepiece of a defensive position, woodland ambush, workshop scene or armoured column.

Fun Fact

The name “Jagdpanther” translates as “hunting panther,” neatly reflecting its development from the Panther and its specialised tank-destroyer role.
