Jagdpanzer IV/70(V) – RARE VARIANT
Recreate one of Germany’s formidable late-war Panzerjäger with this detailed Jagdpanzer IV/70(V) model. Developed from the established Jagdpanzer IV, this version combined a low, heavily sloped fighting compartment with the powerful 7.5 cm Pak 42 L/70. Its upgraded armament provided greater anti-tank performance than earlier Jagdpanzer IV versions, earning this model its RARE VARIANT badge.
Historical Role
Introduced during the later stages of the Second World War, the Jagdpanzer IV/70(V) served Wehrmacht anti-tank formations as a turretless tank destroyer. Its long-range gun and low silhouette were well suited to concealed defensive positions, ambushes and engagements against increasingly well-armoured Allied tanks. Without a rotating turret, the crew aimed by turning the entire vehicle, making careful positioning essential.
Distinctive Appearance
The vehicle is immediately recognisable by its exceptionally long gun barrel, sharply angled frontal armour and compact casemate built over the Panzer IV chassis. Its low roofline, prominent gun mantlet, side-mounted equipment and closely spaced running gear create a purposeful late-war profile. The long L/70 gun also gave the vehicle a noticeably nose-heavy appearance.
Variant Differences
The Jagdpanzer IV/70(V) developed from the earlier Jagdpanzer IV armed with the shorter 7.5 cm Pak 39 L/48. Its principal change was the installation of the longer Pak 42 L/70, requiring alterations to the gun mounting and producing the most visible difference: a much longer barrel projecting from the low casemate. The variant was created to improve anti-tank capability against more heavily protected enemy vehicles.
Modelling Uses
An excellent choice for late-war German dioramas, model railways, wargaming displays and collectors, this model suits defensive positions, woodland ambush scenes, ruined towns, workshop settings and armoured columns.
Fun Fact
The “V” in Jagdpanzer IV/70(V) identifies Vomag, the manufacturer associated with this version, distinguishing it from the separately configured IV/70(A) built by Alkett.
