King Tiger Variant
Add an imposing late-war German heavy tank to your collection with this detailed King Tiger Variant. Based on the Panzerkampfwagen Tiger Ausf. B, the model carries the RARE VARIANT badge because it represents an alternate King Tiger configuration rather than the standard presentation of this famous vehicle.
Historical Role
Introduced during the later stages of World War II, the Tiger II combined heavy armour with the powerful 8.8 cm KwK 43 gun. It served primarily with Wehrmacht schwere Panzer-Abteilungen, where it was employed as a heavy breakthrough and long-range anti-tank vehicle. Its firepower made it especially dangerous in defensive positions, although its considerable size, weight and logistical demands restricted operational flexibility.
Distinctive Appearance
The King Tiger is instantly recognisable by its massive sloped hull, broad tracks, overlapping road wheels and exceptionally long gun barrel. A large turret, prominent mantlet and sharply angled frontal armour create a formidable silhouette. This edition captures an alternate configuration of the King Tiger, providing collectors with a less commonly represented interpretation while avoiding unsupported claims about production or combat rarity.
Modelling Uses
This model is ideal for late-war European dioramas, Wehrmacht vehicle collections and historically themed wargaming displays. Smaller scales work well alongside model railways or larger battlefield scenes, while 1:48 and 1:35 editions offer greater visual presence for painting, weathering and display. It is an excellent choice for collectors seeking a distinctive alternative to a standard Tiger II model.
Fun Fact
Although widely known in English as the “King Tiger,” the vehicle’s official German designation was Panzerkampfwagen Tiger Ausf. B. The name “Königstiger” also became closely associated with it and is often translated as “Royal Tiger” or “Bengal tiger.”
