KV-1 (1941)

Bring the formidable presence of an early-war Soviet heavy tank to your collection with this detailed KV-1 (1941) model. Developed for the Red Army and committed to battle during the opening phase of the Eastern Front, the KV-1 combined heavy armour, a powerful 76.2 mm gun and an imposing silhouette that made it one of the most recognisable Soviet armoured vehicles of World War II.

Historical Role

The KV-1 was designed as a breakthrough heavy tank, intended to attack fortified positions, support infantry and withstand enemy anti-tank fire. During the German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, its thick armour proved extremely difficult for many standard German tank and anti-tank guns to defeat. Although its weight, transmission and limited visibility could hinder mobility and crew efficiency, the KV-1 provided the Red Army with valuable battlefield experience that influenced later Soviet heavy-tank development.

Distinctive Appearance

The 1941 KV-1 is characterised by its tall, slab-sided hull, broad tracks and compact turret mounting a 76.2 mm main gun. Prominent track guards, six road wheels on each side, substantial armour surfaces and the turret’s pronounced rear overhang create a rugged, purposeful profile. These features make the vehicle instantly identifiable in Soviet armoured formations and especially striking when displayed beside lighter contemporary tanks.

Modelling Uses

This model is ideal for Eastern Front dioramas, model railways, wargaming displays and collectors of Soviet military vehicles. It can represent defensive actions during Operation Barbarossa, Red Army counterattacks, armoured columns, maintenance scenes or vehicles moving through villages, forests and winter terrain.

Fun Fact

The initials “KV” honoured Soviet military figure Kliment Voroshilov. In 1941, isolated KV tanks occasionally delayed much larger German formations because ordinary anti-tank weapons struggled against their armour, forcing attackers to employ heavier guns or close-range tactics.
