M15 CGMC

Bring a distinctive American World War II anti-aircraft vehicle to your collection with this detailed M15 Combination Gun Motor Carriage model. Combining the mobility of a half-track with a powerful mixed-gun mounting, the M15 CGMC is ideal for Allied dioramas, military vehicle collections and historically themed tabletop scenes.

Historical Role

The United States developed the M15 CGMC to provide mobile protection against low-flying aircraft. Its combination of a 37 mm automatic cannon and two .50 calibre Browning machine guns delivered concentrated anti-aircraft fire while allowing the vehicle to accompany fast-moving armoured and motorised formations. M15s served in several World War II theatres and could also engage infantry, transport, light vehicles and other ground targets when required.

Distinctive Appearance

The M15 is immediately recognisable by its half-track chassis, wheeled front axle and tracked rear suspension. An open-topped, angular armoured fighting compartment occupies the rear, with the prominent 37 mm cannon positioned between the paired heavy machine guns. The tall rotating gun assembly, protective armour plates and exposed crew area create an especially characterful silhouette.

Variant Differences

The M15 developed from the American M3 half-track family, replacing the base vehicle’s troop-carrying layout with an armoured anti-aircraft compartment and combination gun mounting. Its most visible differences are the large rear gun platform, raised angular armour and central cannon flanked by twin machine guns. This conversion gave mobile formations a dedicated air-defence vehicle able to keep pace across varied terrain.

Modelling Uses

This model suits World War II dioramas, model railways, wargaming displays and collectors of American military vehicles. It can represent a moving convoy, a roadside air-defence position, a field emplacement or a vehicle supporting troops during a ground engagement.

Fun Fact

Although designed primarily for anti-aircraft defence, the M15’s combined armament also proved useful against ground targets, making it a flexible fire-support asset when enemy aircraft were absent.
