The Composite Hull Sherman is identified by its smoothly rounded cast front section joined to a welded rear hull. This creates a noticeably different profile from the sharply angled plates of a fully welded Sherman while retaining the recognisable turret, tracks, suspension bogies and compact silhouette associated with the M4 family. Its unusual transition between cast and welded construction makes it especially appealing to Sherman enthusiasts.
Variant Differences
Developed from the standard M4 Sherman, the Composite Hull version retained the M4’s basic mechanical layout and 75 mm armament but used a large cast front hull section combined with welded rear plates. The rounded glacis is its clearest modelling difference. This production solution combined the ballistic shaping of casting with established welded-hull manufacturing methods.
