Variant Differences
This variant developed from the M4A3 Sherman, using the same broad vehicle family but replacing the usual 75 mm or 76 mm tank gun with a 105 mm howitzer installation. For modellers, the most obvious differences are the shorter, wider barrel and its associated mantlet arrangement. The change created a vehicle optimised for delivering high-explosive and smoke shells in direct support of advancing troops.
