M7 Medium Tank

Historical Role
The M7 originated as the T7 light-tank project, intended to provide greater firepower and protection than the M3 Stuart. As development progressed, its weight increased and a 75 mm main gun was adopted, leading to its reclassification as a medium tank in 1942. Although intended for reconnaissance and general armoured combat, the M7 did not enter battlefield service. Its performance offered insufficient advantage over the already successful M4 Sherman, so production was discontinued after only a small number had been completed.
Distinctive Appearance
The M7 has a compact, purposeful silhouette with a sloping frontal hull, rounded turret and prominent gun mantlet. Its 75 mm gun gives the vehicle a heavier appearance than its light-tank origins might suggest, while the closely arranged road wheels and bogie suspension create a recognisably American profile. These features make it visually distinct from both the smaller Stuart and the larger Sherman.
