North American B-25 Mitchell
Bring one of America’s most recognisable World War II medium bombers to your collection with this detailed North American B-25 Mitchell 3D-printed model. Designed for historical layouts, aviation scenes and display collections, the Mitchell captures the purposeful profile of an aircraft renowned for its versatility, durability and extensive wartime service.
Historical Role
Developed for the United States Army Air Forces, the twin-engined B-25 served as a medium bomber in nearly every major theatre of World War II. It undertook level-bombing, maritime patrol, anti-shipping and ground-attack missions. Modified Mitchells also became formidable low-level strafing aircraft, particularly in the Pacific, where concentrated forward-firing armament allowed them to attack airfields, shipping and ground positions. The type was also operated by several Allied air forces.
Distinctive Appearance
The B-25 is immediately identifiable by its twin radial engines, broad shoulder-mounted wing and distinctive twin-fin tail. Its compact fuselage, tricycle undercarriage and prominent cockpit give it a balanced yet muscular appearance. Depending on the wartime version, full-sized Mitchells carried glazed or solid noses, dorsal turrets and differing gun installations, reflecting the aircraft’s wide range of operational duties.
Modelling Uses
This model is ideal for World War II airfield dioramas, maintenance scenes, dispersal areas and museum-style aviation displays. Smaller scales work especially well alongside model railways and airbase scenery, while larger versions create an impressive centrepiece for wargaming displays and collectors. It can be presented parked, undergoing servicing or positioned as part of a broader USAAF scene.
Fun Fact
The B-25 achieved lasting fame during the Doolittle Raid of April 1942, when sixteen Mitchells launched from the aircraft carrier USS Hornet to strike targets in Japan—an extraordinary feat for a land-based medium bomber.
