Operation Plunder
Recreate the dramatic Allied crossing of the Rhine with Operation Plunder, a versatile multi-model World War II collection. Bringing complementary subjects together in one coordinated set, this COLLECTION release is particularly well suited to building complete diorama scenes rather than displaying a single model in isolation.
Historical Role
Operation Plunder began on the night of 23–24 March 1945 as a major Allied assault across the Rhine in north-west Germany. British Second Army and US Ninth Army forces crossed near Rees, Wesel and areas south of the River Lippe. Supported by artillery, engineers, armour and airborne landings, the operation established bridgeheads from which Allied formations could advance deeper into Germany during the final weeks of the war in Europe.
Distinctive Appearance
This collection captures the varied visual character associated with a large late-war river-crossing operation. The grouped models create contrasting silhouettes and a sense of coordinated movement, making it possible to represent the vehicles, personnel and equipment of a broader battlefield scene. Their combined presentation is especially effective around bridges, riverbanks, roads and temporary military positions.
Modelling Uses
Operation Plunder is ideal for Rhine-crossing dioramas, late-war European layouts and narrative displays showing forces assembling, advancing or supporting an assault. Smaller scales work particularly well with model railways and expansive battlefield settings, while larger scales provide greater presence for detailed painting and weathering. The collection is also suitable for wargaming displays and collectors seeking a unified World War II scene with subjects designed to be presented together.
Fun Fact
Operation Plunder was closely coordinated with Operation Varsity, the airborne assault launched on 24 March 1945. British and American airborne troops landed beyond the Rhine to help secure key ground and disrupt German resistance ahead of the advancing river-crossing forces.
