OT-130 Soviet Flamethrower Tank
Bring a distinctive Soviet special-purpose armoured vehicle to your collection with this detailed 3D-printed model of the OT-130. Developed from the established T-26 light tank family, the OT-130 exchanged conventional main armament for a flamethrower system intended to support Red Army assault operations during the World War II era.
Historical Role
The OT-130 was designed to attack trenches, fortified positions and defended strongpoints at close range. Its flame projector could suppress or dislodge entrenched troops while accompanying infantry and conventional tanks. Although based on a light tank chassis, its specialised armament gave it a markedly different battlefield purpose from the standard T-26.
Distinctive Appearance
The familiar T-26 hull, compact turret and prominent paired-wheel suspension make the vehicle immediately recognisable as part of the Soviet light tank family. Its most distinctive feature is the short flame-projector nozzle in place of the standard tank gun, giving the turret an unusual, purposeful silhouette. Riveted armour surfaces, angular hull forms and exposed running gear add strong visual interest for painting and weathering.
Variant Differences
Developed from the single-turret T-26, the OT-130 replaced the standard 45 mm gun installation with flamethrower equipment and carried fuel and associated apparatus within the vehicle. The chassis and running gear retained the characteristic T-26 layout, while the abbreviated projector barrel provides the clearest external modelling difference. The variant existed to give Soviet units a dedicated close-assault weapon against field defences.
Modelling Uses
Ideal for Eastern Front dioramas, military-themed model railways, wargaming displays and specialist armour collectors, the OT-130 offers an uncommon silhouette alongside standard Soviet vehicles. It suits factory-fresh finishes, heavily weathered operational scenes and dramatic fortified-position displays. The model receives the SPECIAL WEAPONS badge because it represents a flamethrower tank developed from the T-26 family.
Fun Fact
The vehicle is also encountered under the designation KhT-130, reflecting the Soviet use of “chemical tank” terminology for vehicles equipped to project flame or chemical agents.
