OT-34 Soviet Flamethrower Tank
Bring a specialised Red Army armoured vehicle to your collection with this detailed OT-34 model. Developed from the proven T-34 medium tank during World War II, the OT-34 combined conventional tank firepower with a hull-mounted flamethrower, making it an unusual and formidable addition to Eastern Front scenes.
Historical Role
The OT-34 was intended to support Soviet assaults against fortified positions, defended buildings, trenches and other strongpoints. Unlike earlier flamethrower tanks that often sacrificed their primary armament, it retained the T-34’s turret-mounted main gun. This allowed it to operate as a conventional medium tank while also delivering flame attacks at close range. Its dual-purpose armament explains its SPECIAL WEAPONS designation in the Blueprint to Print 3D range.
Distinctive Appearance
The vehicle retains the familiar sloping armour, broad tracks and compact turret profile of the wartime T-34. Its key visual feature is the flamethrower projector fitted in the frontal hull position normally occupied by the bow machine gun. This subtle alteration gives the OT-34 a recognisable but not dramatically transformed silhouette, ideal for adding variety to a Soviet armoured formation.
Variant Differences
Developed from the T-34, the OT-34 replaced the hull machine gun with a flamethrower installation while preserving the turret, main gun and general mobility of the base vehicle. The most visible modelling difference is the short flamethrower nozzle in the front hull. The conversion existed to provide close-assault flame capability without turning the vehicle into a completely specialised, gunless platform.
Modelling Uses
This model is well suited to Eastern Front dioramas, Soviet armoured columns, urban assault scenes and fortified battlefield settings. It can also serve as a distinctive vehicle for model railways, wargaming displays and collectors of unusual World War II armour.
Fun Fact
At a distance, an OT-34 could closely resemble an ordinary T-34 because its main gun and overall profile remained intact; the small hull projector was the principal external clue to its specialised role.
