Panther

Bring one of Germany’s most recognisable Second World War armoured vehicles to your collection with this detailed Panther model. Designed to capture the tank’s powerful stance and distinctive late-war profile, it is an excellent choice for historically themed displays, battlefield scenes and military vehicle collections.

Historical Role

The Panzerkampfwagen Panther entered Wehrmacht service in 1943 and was developed in response to encounters with well-armoured Soviet tanks on the Eastern Front. Classified as a medium tank, it combined sloped armour, good cross-country mobility and the high-velocity 7.5 cm KwK 42 L/70 gun. Panthers served in armoured formations on both the Eastern and Western Fronts, where they were particularly effective in long-range anti-tank engagements. Early vehicles experienced mechanical and reliability problems, but later production improvements helped establish the Panther as a formidable late-war fighting vehicle.

Distinctive Appearance

The Panther is immediately identifiable by its sharply sloped glacis plate, broad tracks and large overlapping road wheels. Its long gun barrel, wide mantlet and compact turret create a purposeful silhouette, while the high hull sides and angled armour distinguish it from earlier German Panzer designs. These features give the model a commanding presence even at smaller scales.

Modelling Uses

This Panther is suitable for Eastern Front or Western Front dioramas, model railways, wargaming displays and collectors of German Second World War armour. It can be placed in an armoured column, defensive position, maintenance scene or battle-damaged landscape. The range of scales makes it equally useful as a compact layout detail, gaming piece or centrepiece model.

Fun Fact

The Panther’s overlapping and interleaved road wheels helped spread its weight and provided a relatively smooth ride across rough terrain. However, the complex arrangement could make field maintenance difficult, particularly when mud, snow or ice became packed between the wheels.
