Panzer 38(t) Ausf. A
Bring an important early-war Wehrmacht armoured vehicle to your collection with this detailed 3D-printed Panzer 38(t) Ausf. A. Originally designed in Czechoslovakia, this compact and reliable light tank was adopted by Germany and used during the opening campaigns of the Second World War.
Historical Role
The Panzer 38(t) Ausf. A served as a light battle tank within German Panzer formations. Its 3.7 cm main gun was effective against many contemporary light tanks, while its mobility and mechanical reliability made it valuable during fast-moving operations. Vehicles of this type participated in the Polish campaign and helped strengthen Wehrmacht armoured units before heavier German designs became widely available.
Distinctive Appearance
The vehicle is instantly recognisable by its compact proportions, riveted armour construction and angular hull. A small offset turret, stepped frontal profile, narrow tracks and prominent road wheels give the Panzer 38(t) its characteristic silhouette. The turret-mounted main gun and machine-gun armament complete the purposeful appearance of this early-war tank.
Variant Differences
The Ausf. A developed directly from the Czech LT vz. 38 and became the first main production version accepted for German service. It retained the original mechanical layout and Czech-designed 3.7 cm armament rather than introducing a major redesign. German radio equipment, service fittings and Wehrmacht markings distinguished it operationally, while its early riveted hull and lightly protected frontal structure provide the principal modelling cues. The variant existed to place the proven Czech design into German Panzer units quickly.
Modelling Uses
This model is well suited to early-war dioramas, model railways, wargaming displays and collectors of Wehrmacht or Czech-designed armour. It can represent vehicles in campaign columns, maintenance scenes, rail-loading displays or armoured formations from the opening years of World War II.
Fun Fact
The “(t)” in Panzer 38(t) stood for tschechisch, meaning Czech, and identified the vehicle’s country of origin rather than its weight.
