Panzer 38(t) Ausf. G
Recreate a distinctive Wehrmacht armoured vehicle with this detailed Panzer 38(t) Ausf. G 3D-printed model. Originally based on a Czech design, the Panzer 38(t) combined reliable engineering, a compact profile and effective early-war mobility, making it an excellent subject for historically themed collections and displays.
Historical Role
Following the German occupation of Czechoslovakia, the LT vz. 38 entered Wehrmacht service as the Panzerkampfwagen 38(t). It served as a light tank in the campaigns in Poland, France, the Balkans and the early stages of the Eastern Front. Armed with a 3.7 cm KwK 38(t), it was initially effective against contemporary light armour but became increasingly outclassed by heavier enemy tanks.
Distinctive Appearance
The Panzer 38(t) is recognisable by its compact, angular hull, prominent riveted construction and four large road wheels on each side. Its small offset turret, narrow tracks, stepped frontal profile and rear engine deck create a silhouette quite different from German-designed Panzer types of the same period.
Variant Differences
The Ausf. G developed from the Czech LT vz. 38 and earlier German-service Panzer 38(t) versions. It retained the established chassis, suspension and 3.7 cm main armament while incorporating the heavier frontal protection associated with later production. Visually, it preserved the familiar riveted hull and compact turret, reflecting an effort to improve survivability without replacing a proven production design.
Modelling Uses
This model is ideal for World War II dioramas, model railways, wargaming displays and collectors of Wehrmacht armour. It can represent an early Eastern Front column, a vehicle halted beside a railway siding, a workshop scene or a light armoured formation advancing with infantry and support vehicles.
Fun Fact
The “(t)” in Panzer 38(t) stood for tschechisch, meaning Czech. Although the tank eventually became obsolete, its dependable chassis continued to support several German self-propelled gun and tank-destroyer designs.
