Panzer II Ausf. C
Represent one of the best-known early-war versions of Germany’s Panzer II with this detailed Ausf. C model. Designed for World War II layouts, dioramas and collections, it captures the compact form of a light tank that served widely during the opening campaigns of the conflict.
Historical Role
The Panzer II Ausf. C served as a light tank and reconnaissance vehicle during the early years of the Second World War. Armed with a 2 cm autocannon and coaxial MG34 machine gun, it was used in Poland, France, North Africa and the opening stages of the Eastern Front. Although increasingly outclassed by heavier enemy armour, the Panzer II remained useful for reconnaissance, security and secondary duties.
Distinctive Appearance
The Ausf. C is recognisable by its compact turret, 2 cm main gun, five large road wheels on each side and four return rollers. Its angular hull and relatively narrow tracks give it the characteristic proportions of an early German light tank.
Variant Differences
The Ausf. C represented a mature version of the standard Panzer II design. Compared with earlier developmental models, it used the established five-road-wheel suspension layout and retained the Maybach-powered chassis that became familiar across later production vehicles. Many examples later received additional frontal armour and other field modifications.
Modelling Uses
Well suited to early-war European and North African scenes, the Panzer II Ausf. C works equally well in armoured columns, reconnaissance units, rail-loading scenes, workshops or abandoned battlefield settings.
Fun Fact
The Panzer II was originally intended as an interim training and development tank, but delays to newer designs meant it saw extensive front-line service during the early war years.
