Panzer IV
Bring one of Germany’s most important armoured fighting vehicles to your collection with this detailed Panzer IV model from Blueprint to Print 3D. Developed before the Second World War and continually improved throughout the conflict, the Panzerkampfwagen IV became a familiar presence in Wehrmacht armoured formations across Europe, North Africa and the Eastern Front.
Historical Role
Originally intended as an infantry-support tank armed with a short-barrelled 7.5 cm gun, the Panzer IV operated alongside the lighter Panzer III during the early war years. As enemy armour became more formidable, later versions received long-barrelled 7.5 cm guns and increased protection, allowing the vehicle to serve effectively in the main battle tank role. Its adaptable chassis also supported numerous specialised vehicles, helping keep the Panzer IV family in German service until the end of the war.
Distinctive Appearance
The Panzer IV is recognisable by its angular hull, centrally mounted turret, eight small road wheels on each side and four return rollers on many production versions. Its box-like superstructure, prominent commander’s cupola and sharply defined track guards give it a characteristic Wehrmacht silhouette. Depending on the represented configuration, features associated with later production may include a longer gun barrel, side-skirt armour and simplified fittings.
Modelling Uses
This model is well suited to European, North African and Eastern Front dioramas, model railways, wargaming displays and collectors of historic German armour. It can form the centrepiece of a Panzer formation, accompany infantry and support vehicles, or add period detail to a workshop, rail-loading or battlefield scene.
Fun Fact
The Panzer IV was the only German tank design to remain in continuous production throughout the Second World War, evolving from a short-gunned support vehicle into a heavily armed mainstay of the Panzerwaffe.
