Panzer IV G
Recreate one of the Wehrmacht’s most important armoured fighting vehicles with this detailed Panzer IV Ausf. G 3D-printed model. Introduced during the middle years of World War II, the Ausf. G combined the proven Panzer IV chassis with improved armour protection and a powerful long-barrelled main gun, making it suitable for historically themed collections, battlefield scenes and German armoured formations.
Historical Role
The Panzer IV Ausf. G served as a German medium tank and became an important component of Panzer divisions from 1942 onward. Its long-barrelled 7.5 cm KwK 40 gun gave it a substantially improved anti-tank capability while retaining useful high-explosive performance against infantry positions and field fortifications. Ausf. G vehicles fought on the Eastern Front, in North Africa, Italy and Western Europe, operating alongside other Wehrmacht tanks and assault guns.
Distinctive Appearance
The vehicle is recognisable by its box-like hull, centrally mounted turret, eight small road wheels on each side and prominent long-barrelled gun. The upright armour surfaces, commander’s cupola and angular turret create the characteristic Panzer IV silhouette. Depending on production period and field configuration, Ausf. G tanks could also carry additional frontal armour and Schürzen side skirts.
Variant Differences
The Ausf. G developed from the earlier Panzer IV Ausf. F and long-gunned Ausf. F2. It standardised the long 7.5 cm armament and introduced progressive armour and production changes. Visible details varied during the production run, including muzzle brakes, vision ports, cupola fittings and the later adoption of side skirts. These improvements answered the need for greater protection and stronger anti-armour performance.
Modelling Uses
An excellent choice for World War II dioramas, model railways, wargaming displays and collectors. It can represent a tank advancing with Panzergrenadiers, occupying a defensive position, travelling by rail or undergoing maintenance behind the front.
Fun Fact
Although the Panzer IV began the war primarily as an infantry-support tank, continued development transformed it into Germany’s principal medium tank for much of the conflict.
