Panzer IV/70(V) – RARE VARIANT

Historical Role
The Panzer IV/70(V) served as a German Panzerjäger designed to engage enemy armour from concealed or prepared positions. Its 7.5 cm Pak 42 L/70 provided greater anti-tank performance than the shorter weapon fitted to earlier Jagdpanzer IV versions. The vehicle’s low profile and sloped frontal armour suited defensive operations, ambushes and support for Wehrmacht armoured formations during the later stages of the war.
Distinctive Appearance
Key visual features include the exceptionally long gun barrel, low casemate superstructure, sharply angled frontal armour and Panzer IV running gear. The extended L/70 weapon projects well beyond the hull, giving the vehicle a noticeably front-heavy stance. Steel-rimmed road wheels were often fitted at the front to help cope with the increased load.
Variant Differences
Developed from the Jagdpanzer IV, the Panzer IV/70(V) replaced the earlier 7.5 cm Pak 39 L/48 with the longer and more powerful 7.5 cm Pak 42 L/70. The principal modelling differences are its much longer barrel and details associated with the additional weight over the forward suspension. This development existed to improve anti-tank capability against increasingly well-protected Allied vehicles.
Modelling Uses
An excellent choice for late-war dioramas, military model railways, wargaming displays and collectors of specialised German armoured vehicles. Smaller scales suit railway scenes and gaming forces, while larger scales provide more room for painting, weathering and detailed battlefield presentation.

The “V” in Panzer IV/70(V) refers to Vomag, the manufacturer associated with this version, distinguishing it from the differently configured Panzer IV/70(A) produced by Alkett.
