StuG IV Early
Bring a distinctive late-war German armoured fighting vehicle to your collection with the StuG IV Early. Introduced in late 1943, this low-profile assault gun combined proven Sturmgeschütz features with the widely used Panzer IV chassis. This detailed 3D-printed model captures the purposeful silhouette and early-production character of a vehicle employed by the Wehrmacht during the final years of the Second World War.
Historical Role
The Sturmgeschütz IV served primarily as an assault gun and tank destroyer. Its 7.5 cm StuK 40 L/48 gun gave it an effective anti-armour capability, while its low silhouette made it easier to conceal in defensive positions. StuG IVs supported infantry, engaged enemy armour and helped strengthen German defensive formations on both the Eastern and Western Fronts.
Distinctive Appearance
The StuG IV is recognisable by its long, low fighting compartment, fixed forward-facing gun and Panzer IV running gear with eight small road wheels on each side. The early configuration presents the uncluttered features associated with initial production vehicles, together with the prominent driver’s position projecting from the front-left area of the superstructure. Side skirts, angular armour plates and the long gun barrel complete its unmistakable late-war German profile.
Variant Differences
The StuG IV was developed by adapting the superstructure and armament concept of the StuG III to the longer Panzer IV chassis. Its most visible differences are the Panzer IV suspension and hull proportions, plus the separate armoured driver’s compartment at the front left. The design existed to maintain assault-gun production using an available and established chassis.
Modelling Uses
Ideal for World War II dioramas, model railways, wargaming displays and collectors, this model suits defensive positions, armoured columns, workshop scenes and battlefield settings. The range of scales allows it to complement compact layouts, gaming armies or highly detailed display collections.
Fun Fact
The StuG IV was created after disruption to StuG III production made the Panzer IV chassis an important alternative for sustaining Germany’s assault-gun output.
