StuH 42
Bring a powerful Wehrmacht close-support vehicle to your collection with the Blueprint to Print 3D StuH 42. Developed during the Second World War, this compact assault howitzer combined the low silhouette of the Sturmgeschütz family with a 10.5 cm weapon intended to deliver heavy high-explosive fire against battlefield strongpoints.
Historical Role
The Sturmhaubitze 42 was designed to support German infantry by engaging bunkers, field positions, buildings and other defended targets. Its howitzer armament made it particularly useful where a standard assault gun’s high-velocity weapon was less effective. The model receives the SPECIAL WEAPONS badge because it represents a Sturmgeschütz-based assault howitzer specifically fitted with a 10.5 cm weapon for close infantry support.
Distinctive Appearance
The StuH 42 retained the low, turretless profile and enclosed casemate of the StuG III family. Its most recognisable feature is the thicker, shorter-looking 10.5 cm howitzer barrel, which gives the vehicle a visibly heavier assault-support character. The angular superstructure, broad tracks and compact fighting compartment create an unmistakable late-war German silhouette.
Variant Differences
Developed from the StuG III assault gun, the StuH 42 replaced the base vehicle’s 7.5 cm gun with a 10.5 cm howitzer adapted for installation in the casemate. The larger-calibre weapon and its associated mounting are the principal mechanical and visual differences. This variant existed to provide more effective high-explosive fire in direct support of infantry.
Modelling Uses
This detailed 3D-printed vehicle is ideal for urban or fortified-position dioramas, German military model railways, historical wargaming displays and specialist collectors. It can represent an assault gun unit supporting infantry through damaged streets, advancing beside railway infrastructure or preparing to engage a defended position.
Fun Fact
“StuH” is short for Sturmhaubitze, meaning “assault howitzer”, neatly describing the vehicle’s combination of a turretless assault-gun chassis and a heavier infantry-support weapon.
