SU-14-1 152mm BR-2

Recreate an unusual chapter in Soviet armoured development with the SU-14-1 152mm BR-2 from Blueprint to Print 3D. This imposing World War II-era heavy self-propelled gun combines a massive tracked chassis with the long-barrelled 152mm BR-2 artillery piece, making it a striking centrepiece for Soviet vehicle collections and historical displays.

Historical Role

The SU-14-1 belonged to a Soviet programme exploring mobile mounts for exceptionally heavy artillery. Armed with the 152mm BR-2, this experimental configuration was intended to bring powerful long-range fire against fortified positions and other hardened targets. Its considerable size and specialised weapon reflected a heavy artillery role rather than that of a conventional Red Army assault gun or tank.

Distinctive Appearance

The vehicle is immediately recognisable by its elongated tracked chassis, numerous road wheels, tall box-like superstructure and exceptionally long gun barrel. The BR-2 projects prominently beyond the hull, giving the SU-14-1 a dramatic, front-heavy profile. Broad tracks, substantial hull proportions and angular armour surfaces reinforce the purposeful appearance of this Soviet experimental machine.

Variant Differences

The SU-14-1 developed from the broader SU-14 heavy self-propelled artillery project. It retained the large tracked platform while its defining difference was the installation of the 152mm BR-2 gun. For modellers, the most visible distinction is the long, slender artillery barrel and its mounting within the imposing superstructure. The configuration existed to evaluate the BR-2 as mobile heavy artillery.

Modelling Uses

This model is ideal for experimental Red Army vehicle collections, Eastern Front dioramas, model railways, wargaming displays and collectors of unusual military engineering. It receives the RARE VARIANT badge because the SU-14-1 represented an experimental heavy self-propelled gun configuration specifically armed with the 152mm BR-2.

Fun Fact

The designation “SU” derives from the Soviet term for a self-propelled installation, identifying the vehicle as an artillery system carried on its own tracked chassis rather than a conventional turreted tank.
