SU-14 203mm B-4 SPG
Bring one of the Soviet Union’s most imposing experimental artillery vehicles to your collection with the SU-14 203mm B-4 SPG. Developed to carry an exceptionally heavy artillery piece on a tracked chassis, this formidable machine combines the presence of a siege weapon with the distinctive engineering of an interwar Soviet heavy vehicle.
Historical Role
The SU-14 was conceived as a heavy self-propelled artillery vehicle for the Red Army, intended to move large-calibre firepower closer to the battlefield without relying entirely on a conventional towed mounting. Armed with the 203mm B-4 howitzer, its proposed role centred on engaging fortifications, prepared defensive positions and other hardened targets. Its experimental character and exceptionally large weapon explain its inclusion in the SPECIAL WEAPONS range.
Distinctive Appearance
The model is dominated by the immense B-4 howitzer, with its long, substantial barrel mounted above an elongated tracked chassis. Numerous road wheels, a broad hull and the elevated artillery installation give the SU-14 a powerful, top-heavy silhouette. The contrast between the heavy-vehicle running gear and oversized artillery armament makes it immediately recognisable among Soviet World War II-era designs.
Modelling Uses
The SU-14 is ideal for experimental Red Army vehicle collections, artillery line-ups and Eastern Front-inspired displays. It can form the centrepiece of dioramas depicting proving grounds, artillery preparation or heavy-vehicle maintenance scenes. The smaller scales suit model railways and compact wargaming displays, while the larger versions offer a commanding subject for detailed painting, weathering and collectors’ cabinets.
Fun Fact
The 203mm B-4 was already an unusually imposing artillery weapon on its tracked field carriage. Mounting it on the SU-14 created an even more dramatic machine, illustrating Soviet efforts to combine siege-level firepower with tracked mobility.
