T-20 Tank (Komsomolets Armoured Tractor) – RARE FIND

Although sometimes described as a light tank, the T-20 was primarily a tracked artillery tractor built to support Red Army gun crews. Historical Role
Introduced before World War II, the T-20 was used by the Red Army to tow light artillery, including anti-tank and regimental guns, while carrying crew and ammunition. Its armoured forward compartment offered the driver and commander a measure of protection from small-arms fire and shell fragments. The vehicle saw extensive service during the early-war fighting on the Eastern Front, where mobile artillery support was urgently required.
Distinctive Appearance
The T-20 is immediately recognisable by its compact tracked chassis, box-like armoured cab and exposed rear seating area for the gun crew. Its low profile, short track runs and sharply angled front armour give it a purposeful silhouette. The contrast between the enclosed forward compartment and open rear section clearly reflects its specialised role as an armoured artillery tractor rather than a conventional tank.

The T-20 chassis also formed the basis of the ZiS-30, an improvised Soviet tank destroyer fitted with a powerful 57 mm anti-tank gun—an inventive response to the Red Army’s urgent wartime need for mobile anti-armour weapons.
