T-26 Model 1933

Recreate one of the Red Army’s most recognisable interwar and early World War II light tanks with this detailed T-26 Model 1933. Designed for infantry support, its compact proportions, riveted construction and prominent single turret make it an unmistakable addition to any Soviet armoured collection.

Historical Role

The T-26 Model 1933 served primarily as an infantry support tank, advancing alongside rifle formations and engaging strongpoints, machine-gun positions and enemy armour. Its 45 mm gun gave it effective anti-tank capability by the standards of the 1930s. T-26 tanks saw extensive service in pre-war conflicts, the Winter War and the opening stages of fighting on the Eastern Front, although their thin armour left them increasingly vulnerable by 1941.

Distinctive Appearance

This model captures the T-26’s narrow riveted hull, exposed track runs, paired bogie suspension and raised rear engine deck. The Model 1933 is especially recognisable by its cylindrical single turret, offset armament arrangement and prominent gun mantlet. These angular mechanical details contrast with the rounded turret to create a distinctly early Soviet silhouette.

Variant Differences

The Model 1933 developed from the earlier twin-turret T-26, itself based on the British Vickers 6-Ton design. It replaced the two small machine-gun turrets with one larger turret carrying a 45 mm cannon and coaxial DT machine gun. The resulting layout was more practical, offered greater firepower and established the familiar appearance of the principal single-turret T-26 variants.

Modelling Uses

An excellent choice for early Eastern Front dioramas, Winter War scenes, military model railways and Soviet-themed wargaming displays. The range of scales also makes it suitable for compact battlefield layouts, larger showcase builds and collectors assembling the development of Red Army armoured vehicles.

Fun Fact

Although it became a defining Soviet tank of the 1930s, the T-26 traced its origins to the British Vickers 6-Ton, which Soviet engineers adapted extensively for domestic production and changing Red Army requirements.
