T-26 Model 1940 Burnt Out
Recreate the aftermath of early Eastern Front fighting with this battle-damaged Soviet T-26 Model 1940. Depicted as a burnt-out vehicle, this display model brings the stark consequences of armoured warfare to historical scenes. Its specialised wreck presentation earns the UNIQUE DESIGN badge.
Historical Role
The T-26 was a Soviet light infantry-support tank used extensively by the Red Army before and during the opening years of World War II. Armed with a 45 mm gun, single-turret versions could engage infantry positions, light vehicles and contemporary tanks. By 1941, however, the T-26’s relatively light protection and limited mobility left it vulnerable on the Eastern Front.
Distinctive Appearance
The Model 1940 retains the T-26’s compact hull, closely spaced road wheels, narrow tracks and angular single turret. Its prominent main gun gives the vehicle a purposeful silhouette. This version’s burnt-out, battle-damaged presentation transforms those familiar features into a convincing battlefield wreck suitable for abandoned positions and aftermath scenes.
Variant Differences
The Model 1940 represented a late development of the T-26 family, which had begun with twin-turret vehicles derived from the British Vickers 6-Ton design. Later Soviet versions adopted a single turret and 45 mm gun, while subsequent production introduced a more angular turret and revised hull protection. These changes were intended to improve firepower and battlefield survivability without replacing the established chassis.
Modelling Uses
This wrecked T-26 is ideal for Eastern Front dioramas, model railways, wargaming displays and collectors of Soviet armour. Use it beside a damaged road, defensive position, rail siding or ruined settlement to add narrative depth and a realistic sense of battlefield aftermath.
Fun Fact
Although developed from the British Vickers 6-Ton, the T-26 was extensively adapted by Soviet engineers and became one of the Red Army’s most recognisable pre-war light tanks.
