T-34-57 M1941
Bring a specialised early-war Soviet armoured vehicle to your collection with the T-34-57 M1941. Combining the mobility and sloped armour of the T-34 with a high-velocity 57 mm gun, this distinctive variant was intended to engage heavily armoured enemy vehicles at greater ranges. It carries the LIMITED PRODUCTION badge because the 1941 T-34-57 was a limited-production specialist anti-tank variant.
Historical Role
Developed during the opening period of the Eastern Front, the T-34-57 served as a dedicated anti-tank version of the Red Army’s increasingly important medium tank. Its ZiS-4 gun prioritised armour penetration over the broader battlefield utility of the standard 76.2 mm armament, making the vehicle particularly suited to engaging enemy tanks rather than providing general-purpose fire support.
Distinctive Appearance
The model retains the recognisable early T-34 profile: sharply sloped hull armour, broad tracks, compact turret and low silhouette. Its defining feature is the long, comparatively slender 57 mm gun barrel, which gives the turret a noticeably different appearance from the more familiar short-barrelled and 76.2 mm-armed T-34 variants.
Variant Differences
The T-34-57 developed from the early T-34 medium tank and replaced its standard 76.2 mm gun with the high-velocity 57 mm ZiS-4. Mechanically and visually it remained closely related to the T-34 M1941, but the narrower, elongated barrel is an immediate modelling identifier. The change created a specialist vehicle focused on defeating enemy armour.
Modelling Uses
An excellent choice for Eastern Front dioramas, model railways, wargaming displays and collectors seeking an unusual Soviet vehicle. Smaller scales suit railway scenes and massed formations, while larger versions provide greater presence for painting, weathering and display.
Fun Fact
The ZiS-4 tank gun was derived from the same 57 mm weapons family as the ZiS-2 anti-tank gun, giving the T-34-57 an unusually long and slender main armament for an early-war T-34.
