T-34-85 (1945)
Representing one of the Red Army’s most recognisable late-war armoured vehicles, the T-34-85 (1945) is an essential addition to any World War II collection. This detailed 3D-printed model captures the powerful silhouette of the improved T-34 as it appeared during the final campaigns on the Eastern Front and in Soviet operations across Central Europe.
Historical Role
The T-34-85 served as a highly mobile medium tank, combining effective firepower, sloped armour and strong cross-country performance. Its 85 mm gun gave Soviet tank crews a better chance against heavily armoured German vehicles, while the enlarged turret improved battlefield coordination by accommodating a three-man turret crew. By 1945, it formed a major part of Red Army tank and mechanised formations, supporting rapid advances, infantry assaults and exploitation operations.
Distinctive Appearance
The vehicle is distinguished by its broad, rounded turret, long 85 mm gun barrel, steeply sloped hull armour and large road wheels. Other characteristic features include wide tracks, prominent external fuel tanks and the compact, low-profile hull inherited from the original T-34 design. Together, these details create the unmistakable appearance of a late-war Soviet medium tank.
Variant Differences
The T-34-85 developed from the earlier T-34-76. Its principal changes were the larger turret, an 85 mm main gun and a revised turret crew arrangement. Visually, the enlarged turret and longer gun are the clearest differences. The variant was introduced to increase firepower and improve crew efficiency while retaining the proven T-34 chassis and mobility.
Modelling Uses
Ideal for Eastern Front dioramas, late-war street scenes, model railways, wargaming displays and collectors, this model can represent vehicles advancing with Soviet infantry, gathering at a field maintenance point or entering a liberated town. The range of scales supports compact layouts, display collections and larger detailed scenes.
Fun Fact
The T-34-85’s larger turret enabled the commander to focus more effectively on observation and command rather than also helping operate the main gun, a significant improvement in combat efficiency.
