T-34 Model 1942

Bring one of the Red Army’s most recognisable armoured vehicles to your collection with this detailed T-34 Model 1942. Built for the demanding conditions of the Eastern Front, the T-34 combined sloped armour, mobility and effective firepower in a design suited to large-scale wartime production.

Historical Role

The T-34 Model 1942 served as a Soviet medium tank during a critical period of the Second World War. Armed with the 76.2 mm F-34 gun, it could engage enemy armour, defensive positions and infantry targets while supporting Red Army breakthroughs and counter-attacks. Its wide tracks aided movement across mud, snow and broken terrain, while its sloped hull armour offered effective protection without excessive weight.

Distinctive Appearance

The vehicle is defined by its sharply angled glacis plate, low hull, broad tracks and forward-positioned turret. Production varied between Soviet factories, so Model 1942 tanks appeared with different cast or welded turret details and simplified fittings. These practical variations give the vehicle the rugged, functional appearance associated with wartime T-34 production.

Variant Differences

Developed from earlier T-34/76 production models, the Model 1942 retained the diesel engine, Christie-type suspension and F-34 main gun rather than introducing a completely new mechanical layout. Its principal changes reflected manufacturing simplification and factory-specific production methods. Revised turret construction, track patterns and external fittings are among the most visible modelling differences, introduced to accelerate output under wartime conditions.

Modelling Uses

This model is ideal for Eastern Front dioramas, military model railways, tabletop wargaming displays and collectors of Soviet armour. It can represent an operational tank advancing with infantry, a vehicle halted beside a field workshop or part of a larger Red Army armoured formation.

Fun Fact

“Model 1942” is largely a retrospective classification: wartime T-34 production involved continuous factory-level changes rather than one perfectly standardised annual pattern.
